Groves neighbor charged with molesting girl
Russell Ray Bergeaux, 63, of Groves, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury Aug. 11, 2011, for aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony.
According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The Examiner, on June 28, 2011, police took sworn statements from the young victim — a 6-year-old girl — and her mother after the victim’s mother overheard her daughter “talking to her sister about getting cookies from the man that lives next door.”
The victim’s mother and a family friend told police “the child became extremely upset to the point of hyperventilating and then described the neighbor digitally penetrating her vagina,” the affidavit said.
The child was interviewed at the Garth House where she again made an outcry of sexual abuse to a forensic interviewer, according to the affidavit. Bergeaux was arrested Oct. 8, 2012 and placed in the Jefferson County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
He is set to appear for trial in Judge Larry Gist’s Drug Impact Court on April 7.
