Five arrested in prostitution sting in Orange

Five women were arrested in Orange as the result of a prostitution sting operation carried out by the Orange Police Department Wednesday, March 13. Bertha Geral, 50, Precious King, 34, Shanna Meaux, 29, Irisha Dupree, 33, and Melanie Rider, 45, were arrested and charged with prostitution.

According to a report completed by Sgt. Jason Laughlin of the OPD narcotics division, two of the women were arrested in the 1200 block of Burton Ave. after an undercover officer approached them at approximately 7:50 p.m. during the sting operation. Sgt. Laughlin reported that the Geral and King agreed to engage in sexual conduct with the undercover officer for $100. After agreeing on a price, the women reportedly entered the vehicle and rode away with the officer. At that time, a team of OPD officers stopped the car and arrested Geral and King, the report stated, and officers found a glass pipe with burnt copper wiring classified by police as a “crack pipe” in Geral’s possession.  

Sgt. J.C. Steele of the OPD narcotics division reported that at approximately 8:40 p.m., an undercover officer made contact Meaux and Dupree in the 300 block of N. Lutcher Dr. The women reportedly agreed to engage in sexual conduct with the officer for $100. They entered the undercover officer’s vehicle and left the scene with him, Steele reported. According to the police report, a team of officers stopped the vehicle and arrested the two women for prostitution.

Later that same night, at approximately 9:20 p.m., the sting operation continued as an undercover officer approached Rider in the 300 block of N. Lutcher Dr. According to the report completed by Sgt. Robert Estrello of the OPD narcotics division, Rider agreed to perform a sexual act on the undercover officer for $50. After the agreement was in place, Rider reportedly entered the undercover officer’s vehicle and rode away with him. An OPD team of officers stopped the vehicle and arrested Rider, who had three prior convictions for prostitution, according to the report.

Due to multiple previous convictions, Rider faces state jail felony charges for prostitution. Geral was charged with Class A misdemeanor prostitution due to a prior conviction and with possession of drug paraphernalia. King, Meaux and Dupree were charged with Class B misdemeanor prostitution.
