Fire at Castle Motel deliberate, investigators say

Fire Suppression units of the Beaumont Fire/Rescue responded to a reported fire at the vacant Castle Motel, located at 1125 North 11th St. Units arrived to find two building heavily involved by fire. Shortly after arriving on the scene a 2nd alarm was called and additional fire units were dispatched. 

 Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control after using master water streams for approximately two hours. Fire units will remain on scene for an extended period of time extinguishing hot spots. Firefighters are being being assisted by City of Beaumont police and a crew from Streets and Drainage. Equipment was brought to the scene by Streets and Drainage to assist fire crews in knocking down areas to reach the remaining fires. An investigation has revealed the fire was deliberately set, however no suspects have been identified at this time. No injuries to firefighters or citizens have been reported.

The motel was ordered closed by City of Beaumont officials in 2012 for numerous code violations. The city awarded a $242,298 contract to ARC Abatement of Houston for asbestos abatement and demolition of the motel July 15. No date had yet been set for demolition.
