Entergy reports 6,000 customers in area without power

According to the Entergy Texas website, more than 6,000 local residents are without power Sunday, April 14. The Motiva Port Arthur status line at 1-877-843-7826 indicates that there was a fire at the City of Port Arthur Entergy substation on 39th Street in Port Arthur due to electrical malfunction, and they are working on the problem.  Port Arthur and Groves have been most affected, according to an outage map on Entergy's website. Power is projected to be restored by early this afternoon. According to an automated message on the Motiva line, TOTAL Petrochemicals and Refining USA, Inc. has experienced a fire within the Port Arthur facility on Hwy. 366. The report indicates the fire is "contained and under control." No injuries have been reported for contractors or emergency personnel as of 11 a.m. The Motiva message also stated the facility requires flaring, or burning off of chemicals, but that there is no danger to area residents.
