Elderly man beaten in his home, wallet stolen in Orange County
An elderly man who had been attacked in his home on May 8 reports he was beaten into unconsciousness by an unknown man when answering a knock at his front door.
According to a news release from the Orange County Sheriff's Office, dispatch received a call at approximately 2:30 p.m. from the Little Cypress Volunteer Fire Department in reference to an elderly white male who appeared to have been assaulted. The elderly man drove himself to the fire station located at 8465 N. Hwy. 87 in Orange and relayed to the personnel at the fire department that he had been assaulted at his home in the 800 block of Lawn Oak Drive, which is located in the Little Cypress area of north Orange.
Upon arrival, deputies learned that the elderly man had recently arrived at his home at about 1:30 p.m., and he heard a knocking on his door. When he opened the door, an unknown black male entered the home and assaulted him in the head and face, causing swelling and knocking him unconscious. When he regained consciousness, he discovered that his wallet was missing and the attacker was gone.
Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office are still gathering details from the victim, who was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for what are believed to be non life-threatening injuries.
