Burglars lead officers on high speed chase

On Sunday, May 1st, at approximately 4 p.m., the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office was notified by Central Dispatch (Nederland, Port Neches, Groves) that a business owner was following a burglary suspect. The business owner had passed his mini-storage business when he saw two individuals that were burglarizing the units. The business owner notified 911 of the incident and began following these individuals. He continued to give their location as he followed the suspect vehicle. A patrol unit from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Patrol division intercepted the suspect vehicle on northbound Hwy 69 at Fannett Road. The deputy activated his emergency lights and the suspect vehicle took off at a high rate of speed passing vehicles on the shoulder in an attempt to elude officers. The vehicle took several side streets until it entered Concord. The vehicle went north on Concord and then east on Lucas. The vehicle flew over the railroad tracks on Lucas and attempted to turn north onto Bigner. The vehicle struck the curb causing the rear passenger tire to become disabled. While the vehicle was still moving, the passenger attempted to jump from the vehicle, rolled across the roadway and was taken into custody. The disabled vehicle continued to travel NB on Bigner at rates up to 75 MPH. The vehicle finally came to a stop when the driver lost control of the vehicle on a bend in the roadway. The driver was taken into custody without incident. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Texas Department of Public Safety and Beaumont PD. The Driver, a 24-year-old male from Beaumont, was charged with evading arrest/detention, criminal mischief and is being held on an outstanding parole warrant. The passenger, a 38-year-old female from Vidor, was charged with public intoxication.

These types of burglars are constantly on a rise in the Jefferson country. The business owner had really done a great job by informing about the incident to the patrol unit which at last succeeded in chasing those burglars who really looks dangerous. The both person who were caught in the incident should be charged with heavy punishment.
Police officers risk their life in this high speed car chase and hence there car should be designed using the engineering excellence to absorb the shock.Sometimes when the accused is driving at high speed accident might occurred and in that case accident reconstruction will be useful in finding the actual cause of the accident and other proofs.
