BREAKING NEWS: Deputy shot by juvenile

UPDATE: According to a statement released by Jefferson County Spokesman, Rod Carrol, The officer that was shot is in stable condition.

An Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy transporting a juvenile from Orange to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Facility in Jefferson County has been shot after a struggle with the minor.

According to several sources at the facility, the officer was bringing the male juvenile inside the facility when the minor began fighting with the officer and grabbed his gun. The minor shot 7 or 8 times, said one source, striking the deputy in the chest. The deputy was taken by EMS to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, where his condition is unknown. The minor was taken into custody and is being held for questioning.

The Examiner has a reporter on the scene and will update this story as more information becomes available. We are withholding the name of the deputy as law enforcement notifies family members of the incident.
