BPD investigating body found on train tracks
Police say they’re trying to sort out the details behind the death of a man who was apparently struck by a train Tuesday night, Oct. 8.
According to a BPD press release, police responded to the Union Pacific railroad tracks that run parallel to the 3800 block of Hollywood Street.
Minutes earlier, Burlington Northern Santa Fe train engineers called Beaumont's 911 call center to report they had struck a man as he lay on the tracks. The engineers told police there were moving westbound when they saw the man on the tracks and immediately activated the multi-ton train's breaking system.
The engineer's attempts to stop the train were in vain, however, as the heavy train continued to roll for at least 150 to 200 feet after engineers hit the breaks. The man was hit after the breaks were applied, according to the press release.
Police later identified the deceased man as 47-year-old William Travis Brothers of Beaumont.
An autopsy is scheduled for later today.
