Bloody Beaumont shootout kills three

Police are searching for the culprits in a bloody shootout Thursday night, June 27.

According to a Beaumont Police Department press release, officers responded to the 1000 block of Prairie Ave. about 9:27 p.m. to find five gunshot victims. Three of the five men were dead minutes after police arrived on the scene, and the other two were rushed to St. Elizabeth Hospital.

One of the survivors was released shortly afterward and the other flown to UTMB Galveston with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper and lower body, according to BPD.

Witnesses on the scene told police several men were playing dominoes when a group of men arrived in a dark-colored SUV and confronted them. Shortly after their arrival, multiple gunshots were fired at the men playing dominoes. At least three children were inside the residence when the firing started, but they weren’t injured, according to the press release.

Police were still processing the crime scene into Friday morning, June 28, and were interviewing witnesses and the victim released from the hospital to try and identify suspects and motive in the case.

The crime scene is near where Park Street meets Washington Boulevard.

Police later identified those killed in the attack as Macgarrett Jack,  28, of Beaumont, Preston Wilson,  62, of Beaumont, and Joshua Ceasar,  29, of Beaumont.

"Police are searching for a dark colored SUV that fled the scene immediately after the shooting," said Sgt. Rob Flores in the press release.  "Witnesses saw several males leave in the vehicle, and as it was driving west on Prairie, it sideswiped a parked vehicle. This SUV may have extensive damage to the front left and driver’s side."

At about 10:30 a.m. Friday, police identified a person of interest in the shooting. Police said the 25-year-old Beaumont resident might have had key facts as to the details of the shooting, and the man came forward to speak with detectives. In a press release Saturday, June 29, BPD said detectives had determined after an interview that he was no longer a person of interest.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call Beaumont Crime Stoppers at (409) 833-TIPS to make an anonymous tip.
