Arson burns vacant downtown home

905 Blanchette, downtown Beaumont

Shortly after 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, 2014, Beaumont Fire Rescue units responded to a reported structure fire at 905 Blanchette, downtown near MLK Parkway and College Street. When firefighters arrived, they found a vacant dwelling fully involved by flames. The fire also spread to the detached garage of another vacant dwelling at 1303 Johns. Firefighters were able to control the fire in both structures within 30 minutes, but remained on the scene for several hours. Both dwellings were vacant and there were no utilities connected. The fire originated in the rear part of the dwelling at 905 Blanchette. The fire cause appears to be deliberate. Both structures were heavily damaged by the fire. There were no injuries. There is no suspect information at this time.
