16-year-old decapitated in early morning accident Sunday

Beaumont police officers responded to a report of a deceased female Sunday morning, May 15, at about 3 a.m at the intersection of Fourth and Angelina streets. The girl was identified as 16-year-old Mandy Tient Le, a Central High School student. An investigation revealed that Le had been a passenger in an Escalade driven by 19-year-old Jonathan Benitez that had been in an accident at the Fifth and South streets intersection. She was partially ejected out of the vehicle and had been decapitated by the guide wire during the crash.

Detectives discovered Benitez had driven several blocks with Le in the passenger seat, hanging out of the vehicle, before dumping Le and her 14-year-old sister at Fourth and Angelina. He then fled the scene. The vehicle was found at an address on Terrel Park Road and was processed and towed.

Detectives obtained a statement from Benitez and his 14-year-old brother who was also a passenger in the Escalade. Charges are pending in the incident.
