‘Portrait of a Warrior’

They are our sons and daughters. Husbands and wives, brothers and sisters. They are the nearly 600 fallen Texas heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice fighting for our freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan. As our nation prepares to observe another Memorial Day on Monday, May 27, in honor of veterans who died in service to our country, CommunityBank of Texas will present a special two-week exhibition of Texas artist Ken “The Dauber” Pridgeon’s “Portrait of a Warrior” Memorial Art Gallery at their home office on Delaware at Dowlen in Beaumont.

Pridgeon began painting while serving in the U.S. Air Force. After retiring from a career painting billboards in Houston, Pridgeon made it his mission to honor the men and women who gave their lives fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. Initially, he painted portraits of fallen Texas veterans but has now expanded his mission to include veterans from all across the country. His “Portrait of a Warrior” paintings are currently on display in his gallery in Baytown.

“There are no words to express our gratitude for the selfless sacrifice these men, women and their families have made for our country and for the freedoms we enjoy every day,” said J. Pat Parsons, president and CEO of CommunityBank of Texas. “We wanted to say thank you to our veterans in a meaningful way this year and honor the memory of those who gave their lives in service to us. Ken’s portraits are not only moving tributes that honor their service and sacrifice, but also remind us that there was a real person behind the uniform, with families, friends and a passion for life. This is an exhibit that everyone can bring their families to and remember and honor our fallen heroes.”

Pridgeon has been featured on “Texas Country Reporter,” network-affiliate television news programs as well as in numerous news articles in print and online.

The Portrait of a Warrior exhibit on display at CommunityBank will feature 10 of Pridgeon’s paintings of service men and women from Texas. The portraits will be on display in the main lobby at the CommunityBank of Texas home office at 5999 Delaware at Dowlen Boulevard in Beaumont during regular lobby hours Monday – Friday, May 13-24.

The Portrait of a Warrior Memorial Art Gallery is at 308 W. Texas Avenue in Baytown and is open Monday – Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
