Golf

Kelly High School junior Julian Mathews shined at the 26th annual Bart Granger Memorial Tournament at Fort Worth’s Pecan Valley Municipal Course. It is the largest high school golf tournament in America and Mathews was able to showcase his skills against 260 players across the country.

Volleyball

The Vidor Lady Pirates won the BISD/YMBL Tournament last weekend in Beaumont. Raegan Stephenson was named MVP while teammates Natalie Morrison, Carlie Abbott and Madison Perkins earned all-tournament accolades. Coach Hannah Jones was named “Coach of the Tournament.”

Super Bowl champ returns home

Former West Brook standout and Super Bowl Champion Earl Dotson will return to his hometown of Beaumont during Labor Day weekend to partake in “Hometown Week – Youth Engagement.” Mae Jones Clark Elementary (3525 Cleveland St.) is the site of the Dotson meet-and-greet Saturday, Sept. 2, from 11 a.m.

100 Club golfs to give back

With a goal of giving back to those who give their all, planning is underway for the 100 Club of Southeast Texas Charity Golf Tournament. Held annually on Columbus Day, tournament organizer Zack Shelton is rounding up the regulars and welcoming additional sponsors and 100 Club members alike.
