Former NFL player, Beaumont native Bubba Smith dies

According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, former NFL star and actor Bubba Smith died on Wednesday. He was 66. There was no immediate determination of death, but officials believe he died of natural causes.

Born Charles Aaron "Bubba" Smith in Orange on Feb. 28, 1945, Smith attended Beaumont Pollard High School and played football under his late father, the legendary Willie Ray Smith.

Williams preparing for 2nd MMA pro fight

Cody Williams, Beaumont’s only professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter, has recently announced his second pro fight will come Friday, Sept. 16 against Nate Garza at Legacy Fighting Championships the Arena Theatre in Houston. A portion of the card will be shown live on HDNet.

American Top Team-Beaumont fighters ready for Louisiana trip

Four amateur fighters from American Top Team-Beaumont will travel to Louisiana on July 16 to compete at Global Fighting Alliance 13 at the Rapides Parish Coliseum in Alexandria, which is approximately 150 miles from Beaumont.

“We will be ready,” said head trainer Mike Berryhill. “These three guys have been training very hard for eight weeks or so. These are going to be exciting fights.”
