The legendary funk band formed in 1977 in Hamilton, Ohio and three of the original band including Lester Troutman, Terry “Zapp” Troutman are continuing the legacy of their late brothers Roger and Larry, who also helped formed the band. Popular songs are “More Bounce to the Ounce,” a cover of the late Marvin Gaye’s “I Heart It Through the Grapevine,” “So Ruff, So Tuff,” “Dance Floor,” “Computer Love” and “I Want to Be Your Man.” There first record deal came with Mr. P-Funk himself, George Clinton, in 1979.
The group has been very instrumental in the influence of other artists such as the rapper-movie star Ice Cube, who said the song “More Bounce to the Ounce” introduced him to hip-hop when he was in the sixth grade.
