One man was arrested for public intoxication over the weekend after getting a flat tire in Orange.
Police arrested 23-year-old Matthew Houston Rogers of Vidor Friday night, June 14, after receiving a report of an intoxicated individual with a disabled vehicle near 601 W. Green Avenue at approximately 7:36 p.m. Upon arrival at the scene, Orange Police Department Officer James Gillen reported he observed a white male matching the suspect description at the intersection of Fifth Street and Green Avenue. As Gillen was watching, he saw the suspect stumble and fall on the sidewalk there, according to the police report. He also observed a blue 2000 GMC pickup truck with the right front tire blown out parked resting on the curb at the location.
Rogers then reportedly identified himself to police, at which time Officer Gillen "detected the strong odor an alcoholic beverage" on the suspect's breath and person. In addition, Rogers was allegedly unsteady and had red, glassy eyes and slurred speech. A female passenger was allowed to leave, according to the report. Because Rogers was intoxicated to the point that he could be a harm to himself or others and was not able to secure a ride home, he was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the Orange County Jail, Gillen reported.
