The Lamar University Academic Lecture Series is proud to present author, professor and keynote speaker Erik Qualman on April 9 at 4 p.m. for a question and answer session followed by a presentation at 7:30 p.m. in the Montagne Center as he presents the power of social media and the digital trends in today’s business world.
Erik Qualman was born and grew up outside of Detroit, Michigan in Rochester Hills. He attended Michigan State University receiving a bachelor’s degree in marketing in 1994. While at Michigan State, he was named Academic All-Big 10 for basketball. Qualman also holds an MBA from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas (1999).

Qualman’s remarks will be well received by them and by the "other" generations which don't feel as secure.”
Often called a Digital Dale Carnegie, Qualman is the author of "Socialnomics: How social media transforms the way we live and do business." The book was a finalist for the American Marketing Association’s “2010 Book of the year” and was Amazon’s No. 1 best seller for the United States, Japan, United Kingdom, Canada, Portugal, Italy, China, Korea and Germany. His latest book, Digital leader,made him second “Most likeable author in the world” behind J.K. Rowling, famous author of Harry Potter.
He is the global vice president of online marketing for EF Education, the world’s largest private educator, and an MBA professor at the Hult International Business School. Over his 18-year career, he has helped grow the online marketing and e-business functions for several Top 100 brands including Cadillac, Yahoo and AT&T.
Honored as the Michigan State University Alum of the year 2011, Qualman was listed in Fast Company Magazine as a Top 100 Digital Influencer. His blog –socialnomics.com- was ranked as a Top 10 Social Media blog by PC Magazine. His video “Social Media Revolution” was the most watched video in the world.
Qualman is also a highly requested international speaker and has been highlighted in numerous media outlets including "60 Minutes," the New York Times, WSJ Mashable, USA Today, ABC News, CBS News, and the Huffington Post. He shared the stage with Julie Andrews, Al Gore, Tony Hawk and many others.
The Lamar University Academic Lecture Series, sponsored by the students, brings a significant element to the university experience by allowing Lamar’s academic community to offer two lectures each year featuring prominent speakers from disciplines represented by each of the university’s colleges. Previous speakers include astronaut Sally Ride, entrepreneur Jerry Greenfield, journalist Tony Snow and professional basketball player Bob Love.
