One man was arrested for public intoxication in Orange this weekend after he fell asleep in a church parking lot.
According to the police report from Officer Jonathan Baggett, he was on patrol near Community Church and School in the 3400 block of FM 3427 in Orange on Saturday, Feb. 23 at approximately 2:43 p.m. when he spotted a black Lexus in the parking lot of the facility. Officer Baggett approached the vehicle and observed a man sleeping in the driver’s side of the car. The man identified himself as 43-year-old Ruben Becerra of Alvin. The officer reported he smelled a strong odor of some unknown alcoholic beverage and that the man’s speech was slurred beyond understanding. Baggett reported that upon speaking with the suspect, Becerra told him he believed he was in Houston. At that point, the officer requested the man exit his vehicle. When Becerra stumbled while trying to get out of his car, Baggett stated he felt the man was a danger to himself and others. Becerra was placed into custody for public intoxication and transported to the Orange County Jail.
