With the C30, Volvo made its debut in the segment for two-door premium cars. The sporty design features two doors and four individual seats and is available in two models T5 (starting MSRP $25,500) and R-Design (starting MSRP: $27,850).
For 2013, the C30 T5 receives new standard 17-inch alloy wheels and Titanium Grey Metallic and Electric Silver Metallic are added to its palette of exterior color choices.
A trim level strategy was introduced on the C30 last year. Buyers can select the base C30 T5 and R-Design models, or select trim levels for each. These trim levels group popular options together for convenience in obtaining a C30 that’s just right.
The new Premier trim level debuts for 2013. To the extensive list of standard features, the Premier trim adds features like power driver’s seat with memory and soft loadcover.
Moving up to the Premier Plus trim level nets all of the Premier features plus a power passenger’s seat and LED daytime running lights. Keyless Drive is a new addition to this trim.
Those who crave more technology can select the Platinum trim. This includes all the features of Premier Plus while adding the Volvo Premium Sound System with Dolby Pro Logic II Surround Sound with 10 speakers and 650 watts. Also included is a navigation system plus Sirius/XM satellite radio.
Additionally, the C30’s Climate package can be added to any trim level, as well as individual features from the list of stand-alone options.
Both the C30 T5 and T5 R-Design are powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged 5-cylinder engine that generates 227 horsepower and 236 pound-foot of torque. Drivers can select a standard six-speed manual transmission or opt for a five-speed automatic.
Fuel economy ratings are 21-mpg in the city for both transmissions and 30 mpg on the highway with automatic transmission and 29 mpg on the highway with manual transmission.
Volvo provides the C30 T5 with a generous roster of standard equipment. The list includes a high performance 160-watt audio system with eight speakers, HD Radio and more.
The R-Design is fitted with distinctive styling cues and equipment. Standard features include a color-coordinated body kit, premium leather seating surfaces with embossed R-Design logo, a special front grille R-Design logo, matte finish outside rearview mirrors, unique aluminum inlays and more.
Polestar Limited Edition
There is also the 2013 Volvo C30 Polestar Limited Edition (only 250 will be made). The base MSRP is $32,445, which includes an $895 destination charge.
Under the hood, the C30’s standard 2.5-liter turbocharged 5-cylinder engine receives an upgrade. Polestar, Volvo’s official performance partner, provides performance software that boosts output by 23 horsepower and 37 pound-foot of torque to 250 horsepower and 273 pound-foot of torque.
EPA fuel economy estimates are identical to the standard C30 T5 R-Design with 21 mpg city/29 mpg highway for the six-speed manual transmission and 21 mpg city/30 mpg highway with the optional five-speed automatic.
Additionally, the C30 Polestar Limited Edition features new 17-inch alloy wheels with matte black finish and Polestar badges on the rear and sides of the vehicle — all 250 units will wear the new-for-2013 exterior hue of Rebel Blue and have a special interior numbered plate.
