As restaurants across the state face the possibility of closing or transitioning to take-out only following disaster declarations due to coronavirus (COVID-19) in many Texas cities, Favor delivery service announced March 16 that it would be taking special measures to promote food delivery and to take care of runners who become affected by the disease.

Favor stated that it would be waiving fees for independent restaurants throughout Texas, waiving primetime rates for customer deliveries, providing four weeks of financial assistance to protect any food runners diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19) and offering a “contactless drop-off option” for all customers.

According to Favor, “As we continue monitoring the developments of coronavirus (COVID-19), we are firmly committed to taking preventative and proactive measures to ensure we’re operating safely and supporting our customers, runners and restaurant partners. Below is an update on our ongoing efforts.

“Restaurant Relief Program: As social distancing becomes a key measure to stop the spread, the impacts of COVID-19 pose financial challenges for our local restaurant partners. In an effort to ease burdens during this time of uncertainty, we are entirely waiving commission fees for both new and existing independent restaurant partners through the end of March. All locally owned and operated restaurant partners with five or less locations will automatically have 0% commission fees associated with any and all Favor orders during the program. Given the evolving situation with many unknowns, the program will entirely waive commission fees on all orders completed today, March 16, through at least March 31.

“Waiving Primetime Pricing: To best support our fellow Texans, we are temporarily waiving primetime rates on all deliveries for customers. Delivery fees will not increase during high-demand times, however, delivery times may be longer than normal. We appreciate your patience as we work to make delivery available to as many Texans as possible.

“Keeping our Runners and Communities Safe: To financially protect Runners in the event they are diagnosed with COVID-19, while also protecting the health of our customers and restaurant partners, Favor will provide four weeks (28 days) of financial assistance to eligible Runners who are diagnosed or put under quarantine by a public health agency or medical professional. In addition to providing frequent updates and actionable steps to protect themselves and others, we’re working to equip Runners with disinfectant supplies to keep their cars and frequently touched items – like steering wheels, phones, and insulated bags – clean.

“Giving Customers a Contactless Delivery Option: During this time, we recognize customers may prefer to limit contact with others. To request Doorstep Delivery, simply tap ‘Leave items at my door’ in the ‘Delivery Address Notes’ section at checkout. You can also text your Runner with any additional instructions and you will receive a notification when your Favor has arrived.”
