Hardin County Sheriff Ed Cain announced Feb. 8 that his office charged two people with intent to manufacture a controlled substance after executing a search warrant at 6650 Orchid, in Lumberton on Jan. 28.

A motorist in the 250 block of the westbound Interstate 10 service road near Green Man Recycling in Vidor lost control of her vehicle and struck a highway construction warning sign on Friday morning, Feb. 8. A state trooper at the scene said the driver was on her cellular phone near the time when the accident occurred. The driver was able to walk away from the one-vehicle accident without serious injury, but westbound I-10 traffic slowed to a crawl.

In an urgent news release, the Orange County Sheriff's Office is currently requesting help from the public in catching the culprits of multiple recent burglaries in Orange.

News Release from Sgt. Chad Hogan:

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office, along with several other agencies, are currently investigating some daytime residential burglaries in various neighborhoods throughout the County. Most of the burglaries have occurred during the workweek in the daytime hours.

Police have caught a man they say robbed three people in the parking lot of Luke's Icehouse on Calder. 

The May 2012 robbery ended when the suspect, who police later identified as Kenneth Ray Taylor, became engaged in a struggle for the handgun he used during the robbery and was shot. 

Taylor has shot in the leg, according to police.

Chief Oscola Clayton Sylestine, the principal chief of the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Tribe of Texas, succumbed to illness and passed away Thursday, Jan. 31. He will lie in state at the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation, 17 miles east of Livingston, when all arrangements have been completed. He was 80 years old.
