Cowboy Harley-Davidson will celebrate riding season with a street party and a gumbo cook-off along with a charity scavenger hunt on Saturday, Feb. 28, a great day of fun benefitting the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with kickstands up at 10 a.m. While bikers are out riding, gumbo cook-teams will be preparing their best, with tastes starting at noon and cook-off judging beginning at 1:30 p.m.


Noted author and true Southern bon vivant Julia Reed will visit Beaumont on Tuesday, March 10, as guest speaker of The Magnolia Garden Club’s “A Little Dab of Julia,” a luncheon and lecture to begin at 11 a.m. at the Beaumont Event Centre.

Thursday, Feb. 12, the Gift of Life Program honored more than 200 breast, prostate and ovarian cancer survivors during its annual Survivors Celebration at the Event Centre in downtown Beaumont.

2014 Jefferson County Go Texan committee

The Jefferson County Go Texan committee is heading to the World’s Championship Barbecue cook-off on Friday, Feb. 27, and Saturday, Feb. 28, at NRG Stadium in Houston.

The committee is a group of volunteers that promotes the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at the county level and has been involved with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo since 1972 as one of the original counties to participate in the Go Texan program.


Family members of a Houston-area girl who lost her life to pediatric cancer stopped in Beaumont Tuesday night as they continued their journey to walk from Disneyland in Anaheim, California, to Disney World in Orlando, Florida as part of their effort to raise money for a foundation in her name.
