Lamar University will announce the recipient of its 2013 University Professor Award during a program Wednesday, April 10 in the University Reception Center on the eighth floor of the Mary and John Gray Library. A reception begins at 2 p.m., and the announcement and awards are scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

The title of University Professor – awarded for life in recognition of distinguished teaching – is the most prestigious faculty award given by the academic community of Lamar University.

Police in Orange are currently investigating a burglary of a business there. According to a report from OPD, Tractor Supply Co. at 2020 Interstate 10 was burglarized for the second time in eight days.

Beaumont attorney Kip Lamb

Beaumont attorney Kip Lamb was sentenced to prison time Monday, April 8, after admitting to defrauding at least two clients in what Judge John Stevens said was an attempt to keep Lamb’s law firm afloat while maintaining a lavish lifestyle for him and his family.

Lamb appeared in Stevens’ court to face two first-degree felony counts of misappropriation of fiduciary property, a crime that carried a maximum sentence of life in prison, if convicted.

One man was arrested Sunday afternoon, after police found crack cocaine in a matchbox during a traffic stop in Orange.

Orange Police are currently investigating an attack that occurred over the weekend in Orange. Four suspects allegedly attacked a 42-year-old Orange resident on Sunday, April 7, at approximately 1:34 p.m., striking the man with a brick and a large stick while he was walking in the 300 block of Schley Ave. in Orange, police reported.
