Lamar University honored 110 employees with service awards at Lamar’s annual staff recognition program. The Lamar Staff Advisory Council hosted the event April 17 in the Mary and John Gray Library University Reception Center.

Dorothea Titus was recognized with 35 years of service.

Employees receiving 30-year service recognition arePamela Kay Blankenship, Salvador Costa, Gail Davis, Cynthia Perkins, Jill Rowley and Joy Tate.

Earning 25-year awards are Diane Foreman, Ralpheal Guilbeau, Alma Morrison, Shaw Shang and Sam Tait.

Eighth graders from Odom Academy paint mural on AMSET wall

Pecos artist Sally Chandler guided eighth graders from the Odom Academy of Beaumont as they painted a 13-foot-long, 6-foot high mural on the wall of the Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) Tuesday, April 16.

“They’re doing such a good job,” Chandler said. “Yesterday, we spent most of the day talking about ‘The Lost World’ (Chandler’s exhibit). There are 18 (children) and they each have their own space and each have their own stories.”

President Jimmy Simmons is presented with the Distinguished President Award

The Lamar University Staff Advisory Council has honored President James "Jimmy" Simmons with the “Distinguished President Award,” citing his inspiration and dedication during one of the brightest periods in Lamar’s history. 

Diann Brodnax, president of the Staff Advisory Council, surprised Simmons with a special tribute and the presentation of a plaque at the conclusion of Lamar’s annual staff awards ceremony Tuesday, April 16.

Dr. Jimmy Simmons presents Donna Blaisdell with the TSUS Staff Excellence Award

Donna Blaisdell, executive assistant to the director of the Mary and John Gray Library, earned honors Tuesday as Lamar University’s first recipient of The Texas State University System Staff Excellence Award.

Blaisdell is a resident of Lumberton and a 28-year veteran of the Lamar staff.

Five other LU employees earned Distinguished Staff Awards at Lamar’s annual staff recognition program.
