Temple-Inland sold

International Paper Company announced this week that it has completed its acquisition of corrugated packaging manufacturer Temple-Inland Inc., which is now a wholly owned subsidiary of International Paper (IP). The deal pays Temple-Inland common stockholders $32 in cash per share. With the assumption of $700 million in Temple-Inland net debt, the total transaction value is about $4.5 billion.

Port Arthur city manager: Search set to begin again

The dramatic and never-ending search for Port Arthur’s city manager has taken a variety of turns, including the revelation that assistant city manager Becky Underhill – affectionately known as “Candidate L” – did indeed apply for the Port Arthur city manager position and that after much public wrangling, the search is back to square one.

Beaumont wrecker yanked from county rotation

There is a big difference between a “tow” and a “recovery.”

Mario Martinez, owner of Top Gun Wrecker in Beaumont will be the first to tell you that, and he’s mystified as to why after his company was chosen to recover a vehicle that belonged to the city of Port Arthur last month his company is now off the county and DPS wrecker rotation.

“I don’t understand it,” said Martinez. “I didn’t break any laws.”

Beaumont Police investigating double homicide

Beaumont Police were called about 4 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, to the 2500 block of Campbell in reference to reported shots fired. When officers arrived, they found a white male deceased and a white female mortally wounded inside a vehicle that was in the driveway of 2530 Campbell. Emergency service responders were summoned to treat the injured woman, but she died before paramedics could arrive at the scene.  Both victims appeared to have suffered from multiple gunshot wounds, officials from the Beaumont Police Department report.

Woman found dead after Beaumont house fire

Beaumont Firefighters responded during the early morning hours to a reported house fire in the 1800 block of Brooklyn to find the house already blazing out of control, officials reported Feb. 15. After approximately 30 minutes, firefighters were able to contain the flames, but the severity of the inferno prevented an initial search of the residence.
