New map offered for BISD redistricting, but why?

Despite the Beaumont Independent School District having hosted a number of public forums to discuss five scenarios and maps on how it would implement a voter-mandated shift from seven single members district to five single member district with two at-large positions, a sixth map is now being introduced into the mix without voter input.

Giant ‘sandbags’ could help halt Pleasure Island erosion

The sky isn’t falling in Port Arthur – depending upon whom you ask of course – but there is one certainty just south of the Martin Luther King Bridge that connects Port Arthur to Pleasure Island – the island’s coastline is eroding. Even more bothersome is that the erosion isn’t just claiming the island’s shoreline as a victim, but the island’s main drag that stretches across the island is close to becoming a one-way road – into the ship channel.

Update on courthouse shooting victim

FROM THE BEAUMONT POLICE DEPARTMENT - On Wednesday, March 14, Samantha Jackson was shot and run over by her father in the Jefferson County Courthouse Parking Lot. Minnie Ray Sebolt was killed during the shooting and two others were shot but were treated and released.

Jackson was critically injured but has continued to fight to stay alive and recover.

Documents delivered after playing waiting game

“We have 10 days, not including off days,” a curt voice from inside the Orangefield ISD administrative offices informed a reporter on the ninth day of waiting for records to be released after filing an open records request with the district.
