At approximately 9:30 a.m., Beaumont Fire Rescue received multiple calls reporting a structure fire at 5380 Margo, near Beaumont Drive, off of Concord. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire conditions with flames coming out several openings. According to a press release, the occupant, Everett Abbott, 72, was able to escape before firefighters arrived but he was severely burned with first and second degree burns to his upper body.

During a work session in a regular Beaumont City Council meeting Wednesday, Nov 12, city officials and council members reviewed and discussed the proposed Best Years Senior Center Project. During a presentation on the new facility and its location beside the Event Centre in downtown Beaumont, J. Rob Clark, principal architect at Architectural Alliance Inc., along with his team showed the council and attending citizens the projected new center and its surrounding amenities.

Creative minds will converge for the 2014 Lamar Literary Festival, a two-day event featuring presentations and readings from published authors, creative writing professors and award-winning student writers.

The Lamar University Department of English and Modern Languages will host the event on the sixth floor of the John Gray Library on Thursday, Nov. 13, and Friday, Nov. 14. This year’s festival will recognize the achievements of three small Texas presses, including Beaumont’s own LU Press.
