The experts of all things scary, Spirit Halloween, plans to raise $15,000 or more this year to purchase items to help ease the fears of children at Baptist Hospital’s Children Emergency Center in Beaumont.

The fundraising effort is part of the Spirit of Children program, which helps the hospital purchase laptops, iPads, arts and crafts, bubble machines, flat screen televisions, medical education dolls and other items to distract kids during what can be an extremely frightening experience.

Citizens of Southeast Texas and Port Arthur Police Department officers gathered at Mid County Chrysler Jeep Dodge Saturday, Oct. 5, to show their support for Officer Ty Smith of the Beaumont Police Department.

Sixth, seventh and eighth graders from All Saints Episcopal School in Beaumont rehearsed Oct. 8 for Oct. 10, 11 and 12 performances of Disney’s “Mulan.”

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students. The performance is open to the public and begins at 7 p.m. each night at the school's assembly hall, 4108 Delaware St. in Beaumont.

America might be a country of immigrants, but a group of Hispanic leaders and students gathering Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Jefferson County Courthouse say they’re angry with politicians in Washington and that their elected representatives need to bring thousands of Beaumont’s residents out of the shadows and onto a path to legal citizenship.
