10th Harvest of Hope Gala set for Nov. 8

Hopeful harvest … The 10th annual Harvest of Hope Gala benefiting Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m. at the MCM Eleganté Hotel. Shelley and Joe Tortorice, founder of Jason’s Deli, will be honored for their service to numerous community and religious organizations. Linda Domino chairs the event; other committee members include Tom Broussard, Paula Lovoi, Gina Crenshaw, Laure Maida and Nikki Ramey, JoBeth Jenkins, Gerri Christopher, Bonnie Tortorice, Jenny Tortorice, Debbie Bando, Charles Duit, Ashlely Messina, Gina Winegar, Camille Mouton, Marcia Stevens, Jennifer Thompson, Kay Arrington and Lonnie Arrington. Catholic Charities is a nonprofit, multi-program organization serving members within a nine-county service area of Southeast Texas, regardless of faith and religious preference. Harvest of Hope tables of eight are available at different underwriting levels, and individual tickets are $125 each. Saturday night lights … To celebrate the third season of the return of collegiate football to Southeast Texas, Lamar University is reminding fans to “Get Your Red On” leading up to the home opener at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, in Provost Umphrey Stadium. Cardinal spirit will be more visible than every during the 2012 season when hundreds of signs and banners will adorn the campus to help students participate in “Get Your Red On” on home-game Saturdays. Focal points will include large banners on the Mary and John Gray Library and Setzer Student Center. Lamar encourages individuals, organizations and businesses to display Lamar colors of red and white during weekends when the Cardinals host visiting teams.

Stellar funding … Lisa and Sam Parigi opened their spectacular Caldwood manse to a very charitable group so that they could meet Sister Susan Sheehan of St. Vincent of the Ain Karem Home for Children with Special Needs. Viewing the beautiful renovated home and enjoying the delicious meal prepared by Bando’s as well as watching the video about the orphanage were Betty and Mark Kubala, Stacey and Casey Crenshaw, Courtney Myrick, Buddy Low, Brenda Van Dyke, Marsha and Lewis Hoffer, Amy Cansler, Bishop Curtis Guillory, Donna and Denny Harris, Lori and Brian Alter, Debbie and Jim Bishop, Lori Verde, R.
