Beautiful belles … The Symphony League of Beaumont hosted A Night to Remember to present 42 belles to their families and guests. Co-chairs April Penland and Jennifer Thompson, along with their very creative committee, orchestrated a beautiful evening for a ball.

Community-minded … Sandra Ellington, president of Communities In Schools Southeast Texas, welcomed a capacity crowd at the CISSET annual black tie event this past Friday evening, Jan. 20. Featured speaker Bill Milliken, founder and vice chairman of Communities In Schools Inc., is one of the nation’s foremost pioneers in the movement to give young people the help they need to graduate from high school and go on to lead rewarding lives.

Ready, set, shop … Fashion Week kicked off with a media party held this past Tuesday to launch the upcoming fashion fleet at participating boutiques such as Bella Bella, Reign, YaYa, BBS, Talbot’s, Posh & Co, Jackie’s, and Gaudie & Co. Tickets are still available for the Saturday, Jan. 21, event from 5 to 9 p.m. Meet at Goodfella’s and jump on the buses that will run continuously to the participating merchants.

Reflections in a social eye….Once again perusing the photo ops and ink generated by all the events over the past year brought about marvelous mems and smiles for this social columnist. So many of these memorable events were for charitable causes and came about due to the undying efforts of so many to strengthen our community. Jolly good fun … Last Thursday evening the lights were atwinkle and presents were under the tree at the Santa’s Elves Third Annual Party held at the magnificent manse of Michele and Mitchell Smith.

Ladies who lunch … Last week the Junior League of Beaumont hosted its Holiday Luncheon that honored the oh-so-deserving Michele Smith. The luncheon was a smashing success with all tables filled to capacity and almost 250 well-heeled women and a few dapper gents in attendance. Alison Kiker (the honoree’s sis) and Jennifer Smith showered her with touching tributes and accolades before the honoree spoke. Never one to mince words, the admirable Mrs.

A-marketing we will go … The Junior League of Beaumont will once again host Main Street Market beginning Thursday, Dec. 1, and running through Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Beaumont Civic Center. Girls Night Out will kickoff this year’s fab finds on Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m. with wonderful holiday shopping, a style show, live entertainment by the Kay Miller Trio and a chance to win a diamond necklace graciously donated by Mathews Jewelers. General admission tickets priced at $5 are good for the entire Market.

Beerfest … More than 500 beer lovers descended upon the Art Museum of Southeast Texas last week to attend the Art of Beer benefiting AMSET and then head into the Yappy Hour hosted by Beaumont Main Street. Distributors of the tasty brews were Giglio Distributing, Del Papa Distributing Co. and Ben E.

All the way live … Having fun and raising funds is de rigueur when chairing any fundraiser, and the Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) achieved that goal and then some with the unveiling of ARTopia last weekend.

Ad man … Michael Lee, owner of the successful advertising agency that bears his name, has embarked on a second chapter in his life. A 2003 trip to France inspired him to paint and now the enterprising artist works in oil on canvas using brushwork and techniques that emulate the late 19th century Impressionist masters. You can see his efforts when Café Arts at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas presents Michael Lee: Second Wind on view in the museum’s café from Thursday, Aug.
