So many runners … The City of Beaumont hosted the first Calder Twilight 5K Run/Walk this past weekend with more than 700 participants taking part in this family fun event. The course circled the Historic District ending in front of Rao’s Bakery. First-place male Drew Bean and firstplace female Jordan Wellborn were thrilled with the terrific times and trophies.
With honors … Sixteen students from St. Anne Catholic School competed with more than 1,000 students from across Texas in the 2012 Private Schools Interscholastic Association Academic State Meet AA Division held April 28 at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. The St. Anne’s academic team proudly received 13th place out of 121 schools at the state meet, earning the highest ranking of any other elementary AA division team in Southeast Texas.

An Enchanted Evening … Lamar University’s Friends of the Arts hosted the 2012 Le Grand Bal supporting the College of Fine Arts and Communication with SandraClark and Nell McCallum Morris co-chairing this fantastic and successful soiree March 24.
Enchanting … One of the favored parties of the year, Le Grand Bal: “Some Enchanted Evening” promises to transport guests to another time and place where romance reigns supreme and cares are washed away by the gentle winds of the South Pacific. Presented by Lamar University’s Friends of the Arts, Le Grand Bal is the major annual fundraiser for the College of Fine Arts and Communication.
So tasty … The annual Saint Joseph’s Day spaghetti lunch at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica Center will be Friday, March 16. At 10 a.m. is the blessing of the food on the Saint Joseph Table, and then from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., dine-in and to-go lunches will be available. All of this delicious food can be yours for a donation of $10 per meal, with drive-through service behind the Cathedral Basilica on the corner of Forsythe and Archie.
