Orchestra holds benefit concert for Dyess Scholarship
The Night & Day Orchestra will hold a benefit concert for the Dr. Wayne Dyess Memorial Scholarship in Music on Thursday, May 2, at the Event Centre.Guests will enjoy a fun and elegant evening of dining and dancing accompanied by traditional big band favorites. Soloists Dr. Jimmy Simmons and Grammy-award winner Don Rollins will make guest appearances, and there will be a silent auction and other fun surprises. Wayne Dyess, longtime director of jazz studies at Lamar, founded the Night & Day Orchestra, whose members now pay him tribute with the creation of this memorial scholarship in his honor. All proceeds from the evening will benefit the scholarship to continue Dyess’ legacy with music students at Lamar. The concert kicks off at 7 p.m., and the Event Centre is located at 700 Crockett St. in Beaumont. Tickets are $50 and are available through Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000 or ticketmaster.com.
