Automotive Review: Toyota’s full-size Sequoia
The 2014 Toyota Sequoia, which offers seating for up to eight in a full-size, sport-utility vehicle (SUV), is available in SR5, Limited and Platinum grades, with a 5.7-liter V8 standard for all models.
With a starting MSRP of $44,095, the Sequoia interior features a finish similar to that in luxury cars. Additionally, all three grades offer two interior color choices of Graphite and Sand Beige. A Red Rock interior is also available on the Platinum grade, and the SR5 Sport Appearance Package uses an exclusive black interior.
With its extensive list of standard features, the 2014 Sequoia offers just a small menu of factory options, including the aforementioned Sport Appearance Package. The SR5 grade’s Sport Appearance Package includes second-row captain seats, 20-inch super chrome alloy wheels, color-keyed grille, and black seat fabric. Exterior colors for the Sport Appearance Package are limited to black, white and silver.
Each of Sequoia’s eight seating positions provides comfortable seating with rear legroom listed at 40.9-inches in the second row and 35.3-inches in the third row. Rear shoulder room is 65.6-inches in the second row and 65.7-inches in the third row. And, hip room is 59.9-inches in the second row and 50.4-inches in the third row.
Space is generous in the 2014 Sequoia. Folding the second- and third-row seats flat opens the total cargo volume to 120.1 cubic feet. With both the second and third rows upright, cargo volume is 18.9 cubic feet.
The standard iForce DOHC 5.7-liter V8 comes teamed to a six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. This 5.7-liter engine produces 381 horsepower at 5,600 RPM and 401 foot-pounds of torque at 3,600 RPM.
Fuel economy ratings for Sequoia are 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway for 2WD models and 13 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway for 4WD models.
