The Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) invites Southeast Texans to shine like precious jewels at its 27th anniversary gala, The Crystal Ball: A Night of Sparkling Entertainment.

This dazzling affair, set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, will be overflowing with cocktails, delectable dining, fabulous entertainment and many spectacular surprises.

The Crystal Ball will honor celebrated sculptor and supporter of the arts David Cargill.

Is there life after death? This question has sparked debate for millennia — the fascination with spirits can be traced to the Cro-Magnon and Neolithic periods. And tracing human culture back to the cradle of civilization, one finds mention of spirits or ghosts in ancient inscriptions, papyrus scrolls and even tomb paintings.

With summer winding down and fall just around the corner, families looking for something fun to do while staying out of the muggy Southeast Texas heat need look no further than the Texas Energy Museum.

The museum, at 600 Main St. in Beaumont, is open Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Sunday 1-5 p.m. Museum admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children 6-12 and $3 for senior adults.

Five performances are left for the Tony Award-winning musical The Producers at Lamar State College-Port Arthur, in conjunction with Port Arthur Little Theatre. Dates for this sly and hilarious musical are July 25-26 and Aug. 1-2 at 7:30 p.m., and July 27 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and students at other schools. LSC-PA students, faculty and staff are admitted free. Tickets may be purchased at the door, and credit cards will be accepted.
