“For the gifts and callings of God are without repentance” (Romans 11:29).

The word “repentance” in this verse might not mean what we think. Among the best translators that I have trusted over the years, the majority say that the word means “with no change.” In other words, God doesn’t change His mind, and that’s a good thing. When He asks an individual to do a certain thing, go a particular place or act in such a way, He knows then the why and how of it all — even when we humans do not comprehend.

Facing what seemed like an un-mendable situation recently, I thought of something my old pastor had said to me one time many years ago: “Give God the opportunity to work in your life, and in this situation in particular.” What he was suggesting I do seemed impossible, difficult, time constraining, and very sad to me. I couldn’t see a good outcome.

UPDATE:

In the event of major thunderstorms and lightning impacting the Run/Walk at 8:00 a.m. this Saturday, regretfully, we will be forced to cancel the first phase of the event.

However, we will continue inside with the remainder of our celebratory festivities and open the Beaumont Civic Center at 9:30 a.m. for fabulous rhythm and blues singer Yvonne Washington and her band, prior to the bedazzling Richard Simmons show and picnic lunch, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
