Well, it seems the busy Southern gentleman has caught a little bit of that spring fever running rampant here in Southeast Texas because, yes, folks. Doug’s doin’ crawfish this year.

For those of you who haven’t heard, there has been a proposal brought forth that would effect Texas whitetail deer regulations. Scott Vaca of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in Austin verified the proposal in response to an e-mail that I sent to him. It has been proposed that it to be legal for licensed whitetail deer breeders to slaughter and sell whitetail deer meat. The average hunter or rancher will be excluded from this proposal. Only the elite will be able to sell for meat the animals that were once the property of the Texas taxpayers and hunting license holders.

The water temperature on Sabine Lake this past Tuesday was 63 degrees and about the same on Lake Calcasieu, two of the hottest trout fishing spots on the entire Gulf coast right about now.

The annual Beaumont Boys Bash weekend is set for April 14-17 with money raised supporting the Hughen Center, which is celebrating its 75th year.

The event begins April 14 at the MCM Eleganté with the wild game dinner with Zona Jones featuring celebrity chef Grady Spears, who is the official chef of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Performing will be Andy Griggs and Daryle Singletary.
