The dust has barely settled from the Lutcher Theater’s 2010-2011 season and folks are already calling trying to purchase their season tickets for the 2011-12 season. This year’s lineup boasts some pretty big productions coming to our fair neighbors in Orange, and if we can make one recommendation, that would be to go ahead and get your tickets early.

After hanging out for dinner at Sartin’s Seafood Nederland for a few hours, we made friends with a lovely couple of characters named Jimmy and Snook several times over.

At first they were a little daunting to look at; well dressed, smelling wonderful and backed by a mountainous army of friends, we didn’t really know how to approach them. But finally, we got to know Jimmy and Snook and we will never forget them — they were delicious.

Chula Vista has been a Tex-Mex destination in Beaumont for nearly 30 years — complete with a radio jingle that local folks may remember from back when the “hit” had constant radio play 10 years ago.

But aside from coining the term “hot sauce head,” Chula Vista does in fact do things a little differently — after all, they continue to please customers who have stuck around since 1980 while earning new ones every day.

When Freddy Fore and his wife, Susan, were informed in February that they would have to relocate their Groves restaurant, they were devastated. Several folks who worked and lived in Groves were devastated, too — Fast Freddy’s, which had already relocated once after Hurricane Rita in 2005, had been a lunch landmark in the city for 27 years. 

Total Refinery had terminated the restaurant’s lease.

“I just couldn’t believe it — as bad as they wanted us there to start with,” Freddy Fore said.

For us, the term “surf and turf” doesn’t quite do justice for the menu at Floyd’s Cajun Seafood and Texas Steakhouse, but we must admit that the crawfish, the stuffed flounder and the seafood fondue have kept us a little occupied so that we nearly overlooked the steaks at the Texas steakhouse.

But after tasting the steak at Floyd’s, we recommend you go on ahead and make your way on to their turf.
