I don’t know about you all, but about this time of year, I’m getting anxious for a little cool weather. And not all of us head to Market Basket or H-E-B for our pumpkins and squash when its time to start fall decorating and cooking. Q. Am I entitled to a paid leave when I have a child? My employer has told me any leave will be without pay.

A. Under the Family and Medical Leave Act, you may be entitled to up to 12 weeks leave, depending on the size of the company and how long you have worked there. The law, however, does not require that the leave be with pay. All you may be legally entitled to is an unpaid leave.

This Saturday, October 3, 2015, the City of Beaumont will host a Fire Prevention and Family Safety Festival downtown at the Fire Museum of Texas, at 400 Walnut.

Local residents are encouraged to bring their families to the festival at the “big fire hydrant,” where adults and children alike can receive valuable information on how to protect oneself and one’s family. There will be free food and “lots of free stuff.”
