Two Lamar Institute of Technology students earned medals at the National SkillsUSA Competition held June 24-28 in Kansas City, Mo.

Kenneth Ross, a utility line technology student, earned a silver medal in job skill demonstration open. In this contest, competitors demonstrate and explain an entry-level job skill. His advisor was Rusty Koenig, program director of utility line technology.


At least three train cars derailed after a flaw in a new set of tracks gave way. 

According to port workers on the scene, moments after the track gave way about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 4, three grain cars halfway through a lengthy train jumped their tracks and ended up on their sides behind the Beaumont Civic Center.
