Lamar University has been recognized for excellence in the field of minority education innovation by the P-20 Initiatives for African American Student Success.

Lamar received this recognition at the 2013 “Every Student Can” Developmental Education Course Redesign Summit hosted by the P-20 Initiatives for African American Student Success in conjunction with the Texas Higher Education Journal in Austin on July 15-16.

Beaumont Independent School District police are currently investigating the theft of copper wire at four BISD campuses.

The Newton County Sheriff's Office is searching for 50-year-old Timothy Brown who has been missing since July 1. According to a news release from NCSO, Brown is a 6-foot tall white male weighing approximately 230 pounds. He was last seen driving a black 2001 Chevrolet Suburban bearing Texas license plate number 1KZ977. NCSO asks that anyone with information regarding the missing man contact them at (409) 379-3636.
