Nearly 400 participants turned out for the 2015 Calder Twilight 5K on Friday, June 12, hosted by the City of Beaumont and the Sea Rim Striders. The walk/run started at 7 p.m. at the starting line, located at the intersection of 10th Street and Calder Avenue, meandering through Historic Old Town, down Calder Avenue and back again, returning to the finish line where the 5K began.

BEAUMONT, TX-  On Tuesday, June 16, 2015, Governor Abbott signed Senate Bill 900. The Texas windstorm insurance reform bill creates a new funding structure, which will provide better insurance rates to consumers throughout the 14 coastal counties in Texas. SB 900 also changes the makeup of the Texas Insurance Board to give coastal counties better representation.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan announced on Monday, June 15, a joint operation against four Houston-area stores for distributing products that contain synthetic marijuana while deceptively claiming the products are safe and legal, paving the way for other state authorities to crack down on the pervasiveness of the designer drugs.

Update from 4 p.m.:

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles announced that Tropical Storm "Bill" make landfall this morning on the Texas coast near Matagorda Island. Bill will continue to weaken as it moves inland tonight.

The local impact is as follows:

Rain: 1-2 inches in southeast Texas in the heaviest rain bands. Less than one inch in southwest, central, and south central Louisiana in the heaviest rain bands. This will cause some brief periods of street flooding.
