Country Music Hall of Famer, Grand Ole Opry member, Kennedy Center honoree, and local born-and-bred singer/songwriter George Glenn Jones died Friday, April 26, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. He was hospitalized April 18 with fever and irregular blood pressure. He was 81.
Four contestants remain in Season 12 of “American Idol,” and one is from Southeast Texas — Kree Harrison of Woodville. If Harrison makes it through this week’s elimination round and is in the final three, a slew of events will be held Saturday, May 4, and expect the “American Idol” cameras to be in town for the homecoming concert and activities.
The Kentucky Derby is a little different this year. No, it’s still the same distance (1 1/4 miles) at Churchill Downs. It’s still held on the first Saturday in May (May 4 this year) and it’s still called the “greatest two minutes in sports.”
