Oil revenue to fund 7th Street reconstruction

With some $47 million in the bank in oil royalties from the Beaumont Municipal Airport, the city of Beaumont is gearing up to begin its first major infrastructure project using the newly -acquired funds to revamp Seventh Street from Laurel to Interstate 10.

City Council approved the lowest bid Tuesday, April 30, awarding the project to Brystar Contracting Inc. for a total price of $6,075,569.55.

D.C. Court continues school district election review

When the Washington, D.C. District Court announced that the Beaumont Independent School District trustee election would be placed on hold and not be validated for May 11, it also asked the interested parties in the case to submit additional information. The case was heard before the court to deliberate whether or not a Texas 9th Court of Appeals ruling constituted “voting changes” that would need to be pre-cleared through the Department of Justice.

Court filing follows school board resolution

A resolution calling for the cancellation of the May 11 Beaumont Independent School District trustee election on April 29 has prompted another legal battle with litigants asking a court to determine if school board trustees overstepped their boundaries in instituting such a measure.
