At 10:32 p.m., Beaumont Fire Suppression units responded to a report of a house on fire at 11155 Pine Haven, upon arrival units discovered heavy fire in the rear of the single family two story dwelling. According to a Sept. 2 press release, units were unable to make an interior fire attack because of heavy fire conditions. It took over an hour to bring the fire under control. Neighbors report one person was living in the dwelling; however firefighters conducted multiple searches throughout the dwelling and were unable to locate the occupant. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

An initiative sparked by students’ desire to give back to the teachers of the Beaumont Independent School District garnered the support of the community and an outpouring of financial backing for their efforts, raising roughly $25,000 to fund back to school supplies for the educators, according to one of the cause’s organizers, West Brook High School grad Sarah Sanders.

Beaumont Independent School District’s Board of Managers adopted a balanced budget Tuesday, Aug. 26, that calls for cuts in many departments.

Police in Orange arresting a man for a warrant for failing to pay child support had to make a stop at a local hospital before they could take the suspect to jail because the man fainted while being detained, the Orange Police Department reports.

Alberto Solis

Jefferson County District Attorney Cory Crenshaw announced on Tuesday, Aug. 26, that 30-year-old Alberto Solis of Groves pleaded guilty to assisting in the murder of Ubaldo Santiago Hernandez in late 2011. As part of the plea, Solis was sentenced by Drug Impact Court Judge Larry Gist to a term of 20 years in the state penitentiary.
